Arthur Wellesley, the 1st Duke of Wellington (1769-1852), in command of the forces that defeated Napolean in June 1815, has had the dubious honour of having a tree (Wellingtonia), boots (Wellingtons), capital city (Wellington, NZ), county (Wellington County, Canada), food (Beef Wellington) all named after him, as well as an Indian military base, an Australian mountain, colleges in UK and Ireland, and Canadian beer, and at least 3 ships in the HMS navy.
